Made in 1971, the vintage Timex Sprite reference 2317 was part of a collection of children’s sports watches featuring bright colorful dials. Collectors of vintage Timex watches call this model the Blackjack as the dial has coloring that resembles the packaging of Blackjack chewing gum. This Timex Sprite has the dial code 2317 2471 which can be found at the bottom of the dial under the 6 o-clock position. Missing from this watch is the word “waterproof” printed on the dial which potentially indicates that this piece was made for the USA market, as it would require this text if made for a European market. The dial is printed with blue and black concentric circles adorned with Arabic numerals. The hands are steel sword style with lumed centers. The sweeping second hand is red. This vintage Timex Sprite “blackjack” has a chrome plated case measuring 30mm across without the crown and has a snap-on stainless steel case back. The lug width is 16mm and drilled allowing for an easy change of watch band. Inside is the M24 manual wind movement with a power reserve of a little over 24 hours.
