Timex Self-Wind Watches
Launched in 1957 and in production until 1970, the self-wind was emblazoned on the dials of Timex’s first types of watches powered by self winding automatic movements.
The most common range of self-wind Timex was the viscount range. These watches featured waterproof, non waterproof and water resistant versions.
Self-wind can also be found on early pieces from the 21 Jewels range.
The original self wind movement was the caliber m29. This no-date movement was based on the earlier m22 movement, attaching a bi-directional winding mechanism and weighted metal rotor to provide power. This movement lasted 4 years and was retired in 1962 in favour of the M30 movement. Inbetween the m78 jewelled movement was used to power models in the 21 Jewels range. Beyond 1970, self-wind watches were relabelled automatic.
