First Impressions

The Good

The case size looks nice and the fit and finish look good.

A 20mm lug width means you can put a ton of straps on this piece and i suspect it will be a strap-monster, able to adapt to suita a wide range of styles with a simple band change.

Who doesn’t love a panda dial!

The metal bracelet looks amazing

The Bad

The mixture of block markers and circular subregisters is quite jarring. I suspect this will be the most polarising aspect of this piece and could make or break it for many collectors.

This movement inside this piece is not defined on the page. As its a budget chronograph, i suspect theyve not opted for a budget chronograph movement like the ST1901 but instead used a quartz chronograph movement. This for me makes this not part of the Marlin family. If this isnt the case then i’ll happily be wrong.

The hand-set looks to replicate the colour of the dial. This lack of contrast could make telling the time a challenge in certain lighting conditions.

Only the white has an inverted background to the tachymeter scale.

The Competition

Also made by Timex are the afore-mentioned Q Chronographs and the Waterbury Chronograph pieces. Spanning multiple dial colours these seem to be a more classic design that i personally prefer.

Other alternatives around this price point are the Omega X Swatch Moonswatch and if you’re looking for something mechanical, a Seagull 1963 or Merkeur chronograph, both of which use the ST1901 movement.
