Vintage Timex Watches

Timex Mercury Watches

In the 1950’s Timex transitioned from the model B, renaming this range to Mercury. The easiest way to spot a vintage Timex Mercury watch is the absence of “waterproof”, “water resistant”, “self wind” or “automatic” on the dial. Vintage Timex Mercury watches tend to have either “shock proof” or no text other than the Timex logo on the dial. This makes the Timex Mercury some of the cleanest dials produced. As a result a Mercury make for an excellent dress watch.

Timex Mercury watch dial codes start with the reference 1. Be aware there are also Sprites starting with a 1 reference.

Timex Mercury watches have many sub-groups of watch including:

Easy Reader – These watches feature  large roman numerals. The Mercury versions being the largest case sizes.

Character Watches – The larger sizes of most character watches are created from the Timex Mercury range.

Timex Mercury Vs Marlin

Both vintage Timex Mercury and Marlin’s are every-day watches using manual wind movements. The main difference between a Timex Mercury and Marlin is the absence of water resistance in Mercury watches.
